DENVER, Colo., Feb. 28, 2008 - The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) announced today that its monthly meeting will showcase a panel of experts who will discuss how Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) funds are increasingly influential and cannot be ignored, without peril, for listed companies and financial institutions. SRI funds have experienced strong growth in the past decade, in conjunction with rising shareholder activism in terms of greater disclosure, more shareholder resolutions and increased shareholder access to Board nominations.

Stephen P. Gottesfeld is vice president of communication and public affairs for Newmont Mining Corporation, which is headquartered in Denver and is one of the largest gold producers in the world. Newmont is included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index of companies. Previously, Gottesfeld was the associate general counsel for Newmont. He earned a law degree and a master's degree in international affairs from the University of Denver.
Lloyd Kurtz is the CFA and senior portfolio manager of Nelson Capital Management. Nelson specializes in wealth management for endowments, foundations and institutions, including having SRI expertise. Kurtz has held positions in research coverage for healthcare and for KLD, a SRI research firm. He is a research fellow at University of California, Berkeley Haas Business School's Center for Corporate Responsibility. He serves as Program Administrator for the Moskowitz Prize, the SRI industry's annual award for the best quantitative study of SRI. Kurtz received his MBA from Babson College.
Steven J. Schueth is the CFP, president and chief marketing officer at First Affirmative Financial Network. Schueth specializes in a nationwide network of investment professionals specifically serving SRI investors. He is a director of the Council for Responsible Public Investment as well as a former director, chairman and president of the Social Investment Forum and received the SRI Service Award in 1998. Previously, he was at Calvert helping to develop the first globally socially screened mutual fund in the United States. He graduated from Marquette University.
Moderating the panel will be Kathy Leonard, Vice President-Investments for The Leonard Social Investment Group of UBS Financial Services. Prior to working at UBS, she founded and managed The Center for Responsible Investing and was recognized by the Calvert Foundation as Community Investing Advisor of the Year in 2003 and 2004. She is a founding member of the Colorado chapter of Business for Social Responsibility and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado.
