High Frequency Stock Trading: Its Importance to Investor Relations Officers
Oct 13, 2009 11:30 AM MTSo what do you do when your CEO/CFO walks into your office one afternoon after a high-trading volume day in your stock and asks: "What happened today?" What if you don't have a clue? And what if you have a performance objective to attract "long-term" investors to your shareholder base?
High frequency trading has dominated recent headlines. A measure of market risk, high frequency trading is continual, high-turnover buying and selling with real-time data to control risk while generating returns from small changes. But what are the implications for investor relations professionals, especially considering that it accounts for an estimated 20-30% or more of volume? Join us for a detailed discussion of high frequency trading, how it affects the broad markets and how it affects your investor relations program.

IRO Program
All of us in investor relations - and at NIRI - recognize today's tough economic conditions. The Rocky Mountain NIRI chapter has a program in place to help support our members during these tough times. It is the IRO (Independent Resource Opportunity) program.
If your company does not reimburse you for attending NIRI meetings, or if you are not currently employed but want to network with other NIRI members and benefit from the educational programs, the IRO program is for you!
To qualify you must be an existing IRO (i.e., a practitioner) member or you must have been one within the past three years. On a first-come, first-served basis, you could be sponsored for $28 of the fee to attend the meeting. Therefore, if you are a member, normally paying $38 to attend, you would only pay $10. If you are a previous member attending now as a guest, rather than paying $55 to attend, you would pay only $27.
All you need to do is submit your confidential request for sponsorship to Becky Winning via phone at (303)722-8388 or email at winning_ink@msn.com.
Becky will notify you whether or not you are one of the first five requests. You can be sponsored up to three times a year.
So don't let the fact that you may be unemployed, under-employed or not being reimbursed by your company keep you away from the NIRI Rocky Mountain Chapter meetings. Be one of the first five people to contact Becky Winning and you could be sponsored for the next NIRI meeting.
